Australia Falls Short, in a Tight Contest Against Hungary

In their first game at the Youth World Water Polo Championship, Australia was defeated by Hungary 10:9.

It was a tough fought contest, which saw the Hungarian ladies, lead for most of the game and the Australians refusing to give up until the dying seconds.

Australia, at one stage trailing by a 3 goal margin, managed to find their way back into the game with two long range shots from Jamie Oberman followed by a lovely extra man play. Following this action, was the first time the VAR goal line technology was used, this time to confirm that the ball had gone over the Hungarian goal line.

Australia had a nice opportunity to equalize, through an extra man opportunity, 4 minutes before the end of the game. Unfortunately, the Hungarian defense proved too good.

Due to technical difficulties faced by FINA TV, our team was unable to do an in depth quarter by quarter analysis of the game as planned. We hope that this should improve from the next game forward.
