An epic contest took place at Playa Zicatela on the 24th and 25th of August. The conditions on the day were nothing short of perfect. As per the forecast, waves were 2-3 meters in height, clean, shaping into the perfect barrel, as they descended on the Zicatela beach.
It was a closely fought contest between all competitors, however experienced water man Kalani Lattanzi showed his class and took the trophy home. Mark Drewelow (Instagram) has only been competing since 2016 and managed to shake up the competition coming in at second. Local favorite Godo, with over 22 years of surf experience under his belt came in at third.

“Unbelievable waves today. Competition surf simply does not get any better. If it was any bigger , it could be deemed as life threatening, but right now is simply perfect. I had a solid bag of trick for the competition and did just about all of them, including a good size clean in and out tube ride.”
Mark Drewelow, who originally only hoped to make it to the finals, was ecstatic after the tournament.
It proved that Mark’s thorough preparation was key to a podium finish.
